How To Get Mods On Ps4
The console ecosystem has always been pretty closed-off to mods. Unlike playing on PC, any console gamer can't typically make use of mods in a game. That changed, however, as certain Bethesda games broke down that barrier, even if Sony weren't exactly enthusiastic about the change.
So, while Xbox has seemed to welcome mods on console with open arms, PlayStation has had a very spotty history of allowing them on their platform. This makes sense, as mods can be a route to either breaking a game or finding unmoderated content outside of the platform holder's control. Still, there are a handful of examples where mods are available on a PlayStation console.
Unreal Tournament 3
Unreal Tournament is a legendary franchise of a bygone era, even if it has cropped up more recently. Back on the PS3, it had a massive community behind it, and with a massive community comes a whole host of mods. In the PS3 entry Unreal Tournament 3, however, it was much more finicky to download mods than it is nowadays in other games with mod-support.
To do this, the user would actually have to have mod files downloaded and available on the PS3 from a different source. The user could download them to a memory stick, or via the console web browse, then head to the Community tab in the game, navigate to My Content, and press Square to import their mods. It's difficult, sure, but it's well worth the hassle.
The game that seemed to lead the way for console mods, Skyrim on PS4 introduced an amazing selection of mods, many of which make the game a lot better. For a game that is now a decade old, playing it with mods can keep it fresh in amazing ways.
To get mods, the user will need a Bethesda account, and then log in to the account via the mod submenu from the main menu. From there, a huge number of mods can be browsed through and downloaded, as well as their load order being changed to ensure they all work in harmony. Mods in Skyrim are vital to keeping the experience fresh after all these years.
Fallout 4
Another Bethesda title, Fallout 4 came out to a somewhat mixed reception. While it is a grand and expansive game full of life and wonder, it can be enhanced dramatically with the inclusion of a few mods. Some mods even overhaul graphical features, helping the game look even more gorgeous than before.
Similarly, with the Skyrim mods, the user will need a Bethesda account. Navigate to the mods submenu, log in, and start browsing. The mods can be selected by category or ranking, and there are more than enough for a player to spend hours just exploring the many different options.
Farming Simulator Franchise
Farming Simulator 2015
Farming Simulator is a pretty popular series that a lot of gamers don't even think about (even though being into the games could lead to big rewards). While it is obviously niche, it has captured a massive audience for what it is, and has also been one of the few series to offer mods on console, ever since it was first offered in this entry, Farming Simulator 2015.
In order to use mods in Farming Simulator 2015, the player actually has to get them via the PlayStation Store, where mods are categorized as DLC. It's a bit of a roundabout way to get mods for the game, and of course, doesn't include the massive amount of community mods available to PC players, but it's a nice start.
Farming Simulator 2017
Believe it or not, half of this list is Farming Simulator games. It's a franchise that has had a consistent release on myriad different platforms, and has always focused on fostering and building up a strong community of modders.
To install mods on PS4, scroll through the main menu to the mod submenu, and find a category and pick the mod — clearly a lot easier than before! Mods in this game can be things like tools and tractors, vital to any farming fanatic, or great for getting newcomers deep into the weird world of farming sims.
Farming Simulator 2019
Who would've guessed? Well, after two years, a lot of changes came to the PS4 entry of Farming Simulator, but the mods submenu stayed exactly where it was, keeping things easy and simple.
Just like before, the user should scroll to the mods submenu, and from there can browse all the mods available. Tractors, forage harvesters, sugarcane technology, cultivators, disc harrows, seeders — you name it, and you can probably find it in the mod options for the game.
