How To Get Married In Wisconsin
Adrianna Fie travels the world in search of products for her online kitchenwares shop, Flotsam + Fork. But there's no place like home—in her case, Wisconsin. "After living in New York for several years, I really appreciate the proximity to nature (I live on a lake!), ready access to local food, and affordability," she says. "All the famous Wisconsin beer and cheese doesn't hurt either!" Here are some of her favorite spots in the state:
WHERE TO EAT
The Hamburger Haus (Campbellsport, Wisconsin): "The Hamburger Haus is the quintessential summer road trip snack stop, complete with giant ice cream cones, salty fries, and, of course, hamburgers. My fiancé's family has been stopping here for years on their way to Lake Michigan, and now we've incorporated it into our summer routine. On a warm evening after a long day of swimming, I usually go for the whole shebang: hamburger, fries, and a chocolate shake."
WHERE TO DRINK
Driftless Cafe (Viroqua, Wisconsin): "Wisco Pop first came onto my radar last summer when the soda company set up a stand at our neighborhood farmers' market. I can now find their delicious honey-sweetened drinks at a number of local restaurants and bakeries, but it's fun to have a glass in their hometown of Viroqua at the Driftless Cafe. The most difficult decision is whether to get my favorite, the Cherry Bomb, or my other favorite, the Ginger Brew!"
WHERE TO SHOP
Design Menagerie (Viroqua, Wisconsin): "Located off the main street in a stately Victorian, Design Menagerie is a welcome surprise in small-town Wisconsin. Run by an expat Austrian and her American husband, the worldly shop carries beautiful home and gift items, including the Bellocq tea we stocked up on and Pons avarcas sandals that are next on my list."
WHERE TO EXPLORE
Fermentation Fest and the Art Farm DTour (Reedsburg, Wisconsin): "Now in its fourth year, the annual Fermentation Fest and Art Farm DTour is the perfect excuse to get out onto back country roads. Organized by the Wormfarm Institute in Reedsburg, Wisconsin, Fermentation Fest is described as a 'live culture convergence,' where classes and talks focusing on all things fermentation take place during 10 days in October. The DTour—a 50-mile self-guided tour through the art-installation punctuated farmland of Sauk County—is a wonderful way to spend a sunny autumn day."
